The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has successfully recovered MVR 797 million in outstanding payments during the first quarter of this year.
The quarterly financial report released by MIRA highlights the collected amount encompasses various sources, including dunning processes, dues clearance, bank account freezing policies, and proactive reminders.
Breakdown of the Collection:
– Dunning or through various transactions: MVR 488 million
– Dues clearance: MVR 277 million
– Under the bank account freezing policy: MVR 43 million
– Reminder calls and mailings: MVR 12 million
Additionally, MIRA has taken decisive action against individuals and entities failing to fulfil their tax obligations. Final notices have been issued to 9,244 individuals who neglected to submit their tax returns and 5,860 who could not make tax payments during the first quarter.
Meanwhile, 231 individuals have been granted concessions, allowing them to settle their tax liabilities in instalments, totalling MVR 502 million.
