The new Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Maldives, Kohono Walawe has presented his credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih last Wednesday at a special ceremony held at the President’s Office.
Following the credentials ceremony, the new Ambassador called on the President to discuss the forward path for bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Ambassador expressed his joy at taking up his new posting and expressed his keenness to build on the work of his predecessors to further strengthen the already excellent relations between the two countries which are, in essence, rooted in their cultural similarities, geographic proximity, and a shared history stretching back to antiquity.
In the President’s remarks, he congratulated Ambassador Walawe on taking up his diplomatic posting and expressed that his administration stands ready to do all it can to improve cooperation on bilateral and multilateral issues of common interest between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, including trade, consular cooperation, tourism, maritime collaboration and environmental preservation.
Previously, His Excellency Major General (Rtd) A.B. Thoradeniya USP assumed duties as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Maldives.
