President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih concluded his two-day official visit to three islands of Gaafu Alif Atoll on Saturday evening and returned to Malé City. The President visited Dhaandhoo, Nilandhoo, and Maamendhoo Islands.
During the visit, the President attended the ceremony held to mark the completion of land reclamation in G.A. Dhaandhoo Island. The project saw the addition of 25 hectares of land to the island.
President Solih also attended the official inauguration of new powerhouses developed on the Nilandhoo and Maamendhoo Islands. The new power plant in Nilandhoo Island can generate 1,050 kW of energy, while the power plant in Maamendhoo Island has a capacity of 1400 kW.
During his visit, the President also met with the local communities, Island Councils and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members of the respective islands. A high-level government delegation accompanied him on the visit.
