President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with senior representatives from Ports Drivers Association. The meeting was conducted at the President’s office yesterday.
Representatives from the association shared collective views of the difficulties, challenges and issues faced by members of the association during their work and discussed avenues of resolving the issues faced by the drivers.
Some issues of importance relayed by the drivers include difficulties faced due to restrictions imposed on hours permitted for driving vehicles clearing goods and the ban on vehicles using the bridge at certain hours to transport goods as well as the reformation of the guidelines on existing vehicle parking regulations and resolving issues relating to expatriate drivers.
Speaking at the meeting, the President assured that the government will pursue reform through the relevant government authorities in seeking a solution to the issues relayed by the association while ensuring that the rights of all stakeholders remain intact. The President also highlighted that the government gives precedence to securing more opportunities to the local workforce.
