On the sidelines of COP29, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held a meeting with Mr Jin Liqun, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), to discuss ongoing and future collaborations aimed at enhancing the Maldives’ sustainable development.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed appreciation for the AIIB’s continued support, highlighting its vital role in advancing key development projects across the Maldives. He underscored the significance of this partnership in achieving the nation’s ambitious long-term objectives, such as the 20-Year Development Master Plan, and stressed the need for ongoing cooperation to drive climate adaptation initiatives.
In response, Mr Jin reaffirmed AIIB’s commitment to backing the Maldives’ efforts to build a resilient and sustainable future. He emphasised that the bank would continue to support projects that align with the Maldives’ strategic goals, particularly in areas related to sustainable development and climate adaptation.
The discussions concluded with both leaders agreeing on the importance of diversifying resources in a sustainable manner. They also expressed their intention to enhance collaboration in the coming years to further align with the Maldives’ climate and development priorities.
