President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today ratified the Second Amendment to the ‘Judicial Services Commission Act’ (10/2008).
The amendment was passed by the Parliament on Wednesday, 21st August 2019, at the 37th sitting of the second session of the People’s Majlis.
Upon ratification, the Act has been published in the Government Gazette. Amendments were made to the required qualifications of judiciary members, the appointment of the President and Vice President of the commission, meetings of the commission, establishing the office of the Department of Judicial Administration and a Judicial Academy.
In addition, the amendment also includes variations to the powers of the commission or investigating committees in addition to areas for the commission to consider when deciding on an issue.
