President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has made adjustments to his ministerial cabinet, merging several portfolios and appointing ministers to key positions. The reshuffle was announced on Thursday and formalised during a ceremony at the President’s Office.
At the ceremony, the new appointees were presented with their letters of appointment and took their oaths of office, administered by Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain.
New Cabinet Assignments
- Moosa Zameer has been appointed as the Minister of Finance and Planning, combining responsibilities for managing fiscal policies and overseeing developmental planning.
- Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed now serves as the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, consolidating workforce and education portfolios.
- Dr Mariyam Mariya has been named Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
- Dr Abdulla Muththalib has been assigned as the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
Following the ceremony, President Muizzu held a meeting with the cabinet members, where he outlined the government’s focus on facilitating development projects in the coming year. He also requested that the new ministers ensure a smooth transition for public servants affected by the reorganisation.
