STELCO Deploying 350 Employees for Single-Day Electricity Meter Readings

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) is set to dispatch 350 employees tomorrow to conduct electricity meter readings across the Malé area in a single day.

Speaking at a press conference, STELCO General Manager Mohamed Saleem stated that the next reading will take place on 30 March, following the conclusion of Ramadan. The company aims to streamline its billing process by ensuring that households receive a single electricity bill for the month, preventing discrepancies that previously led to discounts being applied over two months.

STELCO’s previous billing cycle had a 12-day difference, causing overlaps in readings. To rectify this, the company will take readings tomorrow and again at the end of Ramadan to generate separate monthly bills.

Discounts on electricity bills will now be based on the past 12 months’ consumption, with reductions applied to any increase in usage.

STELCO has called on the public to cooperate with meter readers and advised those who will be away for extended periods to inform the company in advance to arrange an alternative reading time.
