State Trading Organization (STO) has made the decision to cease the use of plastic bags, according to the company’s Managing Director, Husen Amru Mohamed Rashad.
According to information given by Mr. Husen Amru to local news media Sun, the cease of plastic bag use will first be done in STO pharmacies. Instead of plastic bags, paper bags will be used at the pharmacies instead.
The decision to cease the use of plastic bags will be enforced starting from the 1st of next month.
Mr. Amru further noted that this decision has been taken in accordance with the government’s aim to reduce plastic pollution and decrease plastic imports into the Maldives.
