State Trading Organization (STO) has decreased the wholesale price of its onions to MVR 100 per 25 kilo sack.
Previously, at the start of Ramadan, the state-owned behemoth sold a 25 kilo sack of onions for MVR 200.
According to STO, the onion stock that had been brought for Ramadan has still not emptied. Due to the perishable nature of onions, STO decided to decrease the wholesale price.
Although the wholesale price has dropped, the retail price of onions sold by STO has not changed. A kilo of onions is sold for MVR 9.50.
