Meters will be used in taxis from July 2019 onwards, as per the Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ms. Hidhaya Naseer. The Ministry had previously announced that they will be using an application for the meter.
Ms. Hidhaya explained that they would choose a suitable application after careful consideration. She further stated that the application details and fares will also be announced in July 2019.
The announcement regarding the use of meters in taxis was announced in January 2019 by Honorable Aishath Nahula, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation. The main reason for this is due to the unreasonable fares set by some taxi drivers upon the opening of Sinamale Bridge.
