The new re-designed 2-Rufiyaa Coins gets introduced into market today. It was launched by the Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Dr. Azeema Adam in a ceremony held in MMA.
The new coin weighs 6.20 grams and has a diameter of 25.50 millimeters. The outer circle of the coin is made from nickel brass and the center is made from nickel-plated steel.
According to MMA, the new coin that got introduced can be used for business transactions effective from today onwards. Furthermore, the old 2-Rufiyaa coin will still be used as legal tender and would not be collected for replacement; however, old coins that MMA receive will be replaced with new ones.
