Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced that it will begin reclaiming land in Thilafushi next month as part of the second phase development project.
According to HDC, under the project, 151 hectares of reclaimed land will be added to the existing 120 hectares of land in Thilafushi. This is the second phase of Thilafushi, HDC said.
Speaking on a PSM programme, HDC Manager Industrial, Mohamed Shamin revealed that on May 15, an agreement was signed with China’s Haba company to hand over the land reclamation work. He said the work will be mobilised and begin next month.
During the development of Thilafushi, areas will be earmarked for various types of industrial activities. As such, there will be an area dedicated to heavy industrial and a dedicated area for warehousing.
These include:
- office buildings,
- a labour village for staff and an area dedicated to recreation,
- an area where godowns are located,
- a dedicated fuel storage farm,
- and a power plant.
The project is aimed at resolving the problems faced when carrying out business-specific industrial activities in the Male’ area.
