Tourist Arrivals Rise in First Quarter of 2019

The tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2019 has increased by 19.7% in comparison with the first quarter of 2018, as per statistics released by Ministry of Tourism.

Looking at the separate regions, the top five regions were Europe, Asia & Pacific, Americia, Middle East and Africa. Europe saw an increase of 18.6% with a total of 357,650 arrivals. Asia & Pacific increased by 19.5% with a total arrival count of 229,996. America showed a spike in arrivals with 33.2% increase and 33,197 tourists. Middle East follows with 16.7% increase with 19,253 arrivals. Africa displayed the greatest growth of 39.7% with 5,917 tourist arrivals.

The top five markets by the end of April 2019 were China, Italy, Germany, UK and India. China had 96,272 arrivals with Italy coming second with 67,891 arrivals. Germany arrivals equaled to 54,862 while UK arrivals were a total of 48,992. India took up the 5th place with 48,876, almost surpassing UK’s total arrival count.
