Tourists arrivals to the Maldives increases by 8.1 percent

Tourism Ministry statistics indicate an 8.1% increase in tourist visits to the Maldives in July 2018.

According to the ministry’s statistics during the same month compared to the last year there has been an increase of 8.1% holidaymakers visited in the Maldives. During July 2018, 132,332 tourists visited the island nation, while in last year July 2017 the figure reached 113,175.

China remains as the largest single-market contributor in tourist figures to the Maldives with a total of 33,227 Chinese travellers, while India lands as the second biggest market from Asian region for last month with a total of 5,694 tourists visiting the Maldives.

Looking at the European tourist market France shows promising growth in tourist numbers with 2,043 tourists visiting in July, while in 2017 the French travellers visiting the Maldives in the same month reached only 1,504 thus marking a 35% increase in 2018.

Italy follows closely on second with 4,644 tourists visiting the Maldives during the said month, which is a 25.6% increase from 3,698 visitors in 2017. UK or Britain still remains the number one tourist market contributor from the European region with a total of 8,421 holidaymakers gracing the Maldives in July 2018. This is a 9.3% increase from the 7,705 travellers visiting the island nation in 2017.

Germany remains as the second largest tourist contributor from Europe with a total of 6,932 making their way to Maldivian resorts in July 2018. In 2017 German visits to Maldivian resorts in July hit 6,830 thus increasing the market by 1.5% this year.

From January till the end of July 2018 the total number of tourists visiting the Maldives hit 848,847 whereas during the same period in 2017 the holidaymaker visits to the Maldives reached 770,715 which in terms of the elapsed seven months is a 10.1% increase.
