Ms. Akiko Fujii, resident representative has presented her letter of appointment to the Foreign Minister of Maldives, Hon. Abdulla Shahid on 20th May 2019.
Speaking during this ceremony, Mr. Shahid mentioned the role UN plays in the development of Maldives. For instance, he talked about the eradication of poverty, minimizing the negative effects from the climate and natural disasters and the help offered in democracy and governance in Maldives.
Ms. Akiko spoke about the trust the Maldivian government puts in UN and herself and thanked both parties for it.
