Villa College Expands Curriculum with Tech, Healthcare, and Culinary Programmes

Villa College has announced the launch of six new academic programmes, marking what the institution calls a major step towards meeting the country’s growing demand for specialised professionals in technology, healthcare, psychology, and culinary arts.

Unveiled at a press conference held on Tuesday, the new programmes include three Bachelor of Science degrees, a Master’s degree, and two national certificate courses, each designed to align with industry requirements and global best practices.

The newly introduced Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering stands out as the first of its kind in the Maldives. This three-year MNQF Level 7 programme prepares students for careers in software development, with modules spanning mobile application development, software creation, and web design. Students may choose to pursue the course through either face-to-face or e-learning modes.

Equally tailored to modern industry needs is the Bachelor of Science in Networking, also a three-year Level 7 qualification. The course offers practical experience through Cisco Packet Tracer and simulation tools, while also preparing students for internationally recognised CCNA certification exams.

The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security aims to address increasing concerns over digital security. Designed in collaboration with global computing bodies such as ACM, IEEE, and the British Computing Society, the course offers technical training linked with Huawei Academy content. The programme, also MNQF Level 7, combines classroom theory with hands-on security practices.

In the field of organisational development, Villa College is offering the country’s first Master of Organizational Psychology. This one-year MNQF Level 9 programme is structured for professionals in human resources and management, with a focus on improving workplace performance through applied psychology. Graduates will also be eligible to join the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Health sciences and hospitality are not left behind. The National Certificate 3 in Phlebotomy, developed in line with guidelines from the Maldives National Skills Development Authority and the World Health Organization, provides a 17-week entry point into the healthcare sector. It is the Maldives’ first nationally recognised phlebotomy qualification.

Meanwhile, the Certificate 4 in Culinary Arts offers what Villa College describes as a “first-of-its-kind” learning experience. Accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority, the programme blends international culinary standards with traditional Maldivian cuisine, delivered through hands-on instruction in professional kitchens.

Applications for the May 2025 intake are now open, with the deadline set for 19 April 2025. Prospective students can find further details and apply through the official website: https://www.villacollege.edu.mv
