Waste has been converted to electricity in Raa Atoll Vandhoo on 22nd July 2019.
The conversion was carried out in the waste management center in Vandhoo and marks the first ever time it was done in Maldives.
Minister of Environment and Energy, Hon. Dr. Hussain Hassan tweeted about the milestone and spoke of the historical significance of the day and commended the achievement.
This project is being carried out by the means of a loan of USD92.7 million by the Abu Dhabi International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Under the project, waste management centers will be established in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, Raa Vandhoo and Addu City.
