128 Maldivian Officials Trained Under UAE Governance Programme as MoU Renewed

The Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernisation. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the World Government Summit 2025, further strengthening cooperation between the two nations in governance and institutional capacity-building.

The Chief of Staff at the President’s Office, Abdulla Fayaz, signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives, while Abdulla Nasser Lootah, the UAE’s Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, represented the UAE. The renewed MoU extends the Maldives’ participation in the UAE’s Government Experience Exchange Programme (GEEP), an initiative aimed at sharing best practices and expertise to enhance governance efficiency and innovation.

The Maldives has been a part of GEEP for the past three years under a previous MoU signed between the two governments. Through this programme, government officials have taken part in training sessions focused on improving administrative processes and public sector modernisation. A total of 128 Maldivian government personnel, including civil servants and senior officials, have participated in four training programmes under GEEP.

By renewing the agreement, the Maldives aims to continue benefiting from UAE-led initiatives that facilitate knowledge-sharing in government administration. The UAE has positioned itself as a leader in government innovation, and its experience exchange programme is designed to help partner nations improve efficiency and service delivery within their own institutions.
