19 Young Maldivians Graduate from Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme

Nineteen young Maldivians have graduated from the 2024 Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme, the country’s first corporate apprenticeship initiative, in a ceremony held to mark the milestone achievement.

The graduation event, held recently, was attended by Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu as Chief Guest, alongside senior officials from educational institutions, the Dhiraagu Board, and members of the company’s senior management. Dr Shafeeu praised Dhiraagu for its long-standing commitment to youth development, describing the programme as a crucial bridge between education and employment.

Dhiraagu has been conducting the apprenticeship programme since 2009 as a core part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. With this latest cohort, more than 280 young people have now completed the training. The programme focuses on developing employability skills, offering apprentices structured training, soft skills development, and exposure to key areas of the company’s operations.

Alongside the graduation, Dhiraagu also welcomed its 16th batch of apprentices, with 20 new participants joining this year’s intake. The new cohort will receive training both in Malé and across Dhiraagu’s regional operation centres.

Speaking at the event, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed congratulated the graduates and encouraged the new batch of apprentices. He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to nurturing young talent and highlighted the success of many former apprentices, who have gone on to occupy important positions within Dhiraagu and across various industries in the country.

The apprenticeship programme is delivered under the guidance of Dhiraagu’s experienced management team and aims to give participants hands-on, on-site training that prepares them for the realities of the job market.
