President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed for the United Kingdom on Tuesday evening to undertake a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. He is accompanied by a senior delegation.
The official visit comes at a significant moment, as 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United Kingdom. Ties between the two countries were formally established on 26 July 1965, the same year the Maldives gained independence.
During his stay, President Muizzu is scheduled to take part in several meetings focused on key shared priorities, including governance, climate and environmental concerns, trade, investment, and education. The visit also includes a business forum in London, where the President is expected to engage with representatives from British industries and investors.
According to the President’s Office, the visit is expected to reinforce the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and the United Kingdom, which has been built on mutual trust, historical links, and a shared commitment to sustainable development and global cooperation.
The President’s engagements are seen as part of a broader diplomatic effort to expand the Maldives’ international partnerships and attract new opportunities across multiple sectors.
