The Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt has held the first round of Bilateral Political Consultations between the two countries.
The Maldivian delegation at the official talks was led by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, and the Egyptian delegation was led by the Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Hany Selim.
The Bilateral Consultations is held to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Maldives and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
At the consultations held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt this morning, State Minister Khaleel and Assistant Minister Selim reviewed the ongoing program of cooperation between the two countries and discussed ways to further enhance brotherly relations in various sectors.
Deliberations were focused on enhancing cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, education, culture, tourism, health, fisheries and agriculture, maritime transport, energy and information technology. Key thematic areas such as combating transnational crimes, countering terrorism and radicalization, climate change, environmental protection, and strengthening regional cooperation, as well as other important issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
State Minister Khaleel is accompanied by the Ambassador of Maldives to UAE, His Excellency Dr. Hussain Niyaaz, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Shiaan and Desk Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Aminath Naufa Rushdi.
