Urbanco has announced the commencement of Phase 3 reclamation, urging the removal of all vessels from the area to facilitate the operation. The dredging, scheduled to start this week, is a continuation of the initiative launched by the previous government in September last year, which was temporarily halted post-presidential election, in order to repair the dredging equipment and to allow corals to form.
The project, aimed at alleviating the city’s long-standing housing crisis, is divided into multiple phases. The first phase successfully completed 10 hectares of land before the work was paused. Now, under the new government, Phase 2 aims to reclaim an additional 29 hectares in three stages, with the final phase focusing on 24 hectares.
Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC) has been awarded the contract to carry out the dredging work according to the set schedule. Meanwhile, the Housing Minister has indicated potential changes in the allocation of land to residents, addressing the increasing concerns and complaints from those who received land under the previous administration’s ‘Binveriya Scheme’.
