The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has initiated a series of consultative meetings with key stakeholders to prepare for the smooth transition of operations to the new terminal at Velana International Airport.
A formal meeting held today at the Hulhule Island Hotel marked the official start of these consultations. MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts amongst all airport service providers, stating that a seamless handover is crucial.
“We will form special committees with representatives of all airport stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to the new terminal. These committees will work together to address any potential challenges and streamline the operational shift,” said Shareef.
Among the participants in today’s meeting were representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, immigration, customs, and airline operators, as well as various resorts that rely on the airport’s services.
The new terminal at Velana International Airport is a cornerstone of the ongoing airport development project. This ambitious project also includes the construction of a new Code-F runway, a dedicated seaplane terminal, a VIP building, a cargo terminal, a fuel farm, and a fire station.
