The Government of Maldives has announced the cancellation of all applications submitted for the purchase of Vinares apartments through the dedicated online portal.
This decision follows complaints of technical difficulties encountered during the application process, which rendered many individuals unable to successfully submit their applications.
Vinares apartments were put up for purchase by the former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government on November 5, 2023. However, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) reported receiving numerous complaints regarding technical glitches that impeded the application process.
In response to these issues, HDC conducted an investigation and confirmed that the encountered glitches prevented many individuals from completing their applications. Consequently, all applications submitted during that period have been cancelled, HDC stated.
Furthermore, HDC highlighted a broader concern regarding individuals who have paid for apartments in various flat construction projects in Hulhumale’ but have not received housing due to various reasons. In an effort to address these issues, the government has decided not to make the Vinares flats available for purchase in the future. Instead, it aims to accommodate affected individuals through the Vinares program.
The HDC reassured the public of its commitment to providing housing solutions in line with the government’s objectives, particularly in alleviating the housing crisis faced in Male’ City. The corporation stated that it is actively working to explore additional housing opportunities.
Additionally, HDC cautioned the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent activities in the guise of selling Vinares apartments, urging individuals to exercise caution when engaging in such transactions.
