The Government of Maldives has today received a substantial donation of 1500 tonnes of mineral water from the people of the Xizang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China. This gesture of goodwill was formalised during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His Excellency Moosa Zameer, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, accepted the donation on behalf of the Maldivian government. Her Excellency Wang Lixin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Maldives, officially handed over the contribution.
The mineral water will be distributed across island communities in the Maldives, providing essential support during periods of drinking water shortages.

He noted that China has consistently been a reliable friend, especially in times of crisis. Minister Zameer expressed profound gratitude to the people of the Xizang Autonomous Region for their generosity and to the Government and people of China for their continued support and goodwill towards the Maldives.
“The friendship between Maldives and China is characterised by mutual respect and support,” Minister Zameer remarked. “This donation is a testament to the strong ties and solidarity between our nations.”
The ceremony highlighted the collaborative spirit and close diplomatic ties that have long defined the relationship between the Maldives and China. The mineral water donation is expected to significantly aid island communities, ensuring they have access to safe drinking water during shortages.
