Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have surged by 10% this year, with the island nation welcoming 1.35 million visitors by the end of August, according to the Ministry of Tourism’s latest figures. This increase reflects a significant rise from the 1.23 million tourists recorded during the same period last year.
The total number of tourists visiting the Maldives by August stood at 1,359,208, with an average of more than 5,000 arrivals each day. August emerged as the most popular month, attracting 176,151 visitors, followed closely by February, which saw 217,392 tourists.
China remains the top source of tourists, with 198,704 visitors recorded so far this year. Russia follows as the second-largest contributor, with 147,185 tourists, while the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany round out the top five, bringing in 117,582, 101,189, and 96,183 visitors, respectively.
The Maldives continues to be a highly sought-after destination, with tourists spending an average of seven days in the country. The government has set an ambitious target of attracting 2 million visitors by the end of the year. To reach this goal, an additional 636,691 tourists will need to visit the Maldives in the remaining months.
