MPL Unveils New Website for Northern Maritime Services

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially launched a new website dedicated to its upcoming maritime services in the northern Maldives. The site, named Uthuru Maritime Services (UMS), aims to provide extensive information about the services MPL will offer in the region, making details accessible to an international audience.

The launch took place at MPL’s headquarters yesterday, where CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim highlighted the website’s role. “The site will serve as a key resource for information on maritime services in the north. MPL has been given the mandate by the government to kick-start maritime operations across the Maldives, and we will collaborate with various companies to provide a range of services, including bunkering,” he explained.

Wajeeh elaborated on the services MPL plans to introduce. “Our offerings will include maintenance, oil replacement, and other support for vessels. We will also work with different agencies to deliver water and waste management services,” he added, emphasising the company’s goal of a comprehensive approach to maritime services.

Also speaking at the event, State Trading Organisation (STO) Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim announced that fuel bunkering services are expected to begin by mid-September. “This new service will enhance foreign currency revenue for the country,” he said.

Shimad further noted that STO is preparing to roll out fuel bunkering services in partnership with MPL, and additional services will be provided to vessels. “Expanding these services will play a key role in developing the maritime sector,” he added.

MPL is working towards launching a range of international maritime services in the northern Maldives, including fuel bunkering, speed boats, pilotage, water bunkering, crew change, and maintenance.
