The Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, has announced that teams from the housing ministry will soon visit various islands across the Maldives to gather public input on the National Development Plan. The move aims to ensure that public opinion plays a central role in shaping the long-term vision for the nation’s growth.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister Dr Haidar outlined the key factors that the National Development Plan will take into account, including the availability of natural resources, their allocation, and sustainable preservation methods. Additionally, the plan will consider data related to the working population and living standards to ensure that it reflects the needs of Maldivian citizens.
Public involvement will be prioritised during the drafting process, according to the minister. He revealed that the ministry’s teams will conduct interviews with individuals across the islands to gather their perspectives and insights.
The announcement follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s initiation of the 20-year National Development Masterplan on 17th September. In a video message shared on social media, the president emphasised the importance of this comprehensive framework for the future development of the Maldives. He highlighted that the plan aims to integrate the voices and decisions of the Maldivian people, ensuring it aligns with their aspirations while driving national progress.
The Masterplan, which holds significant legal authority, marks a pivotal moment in the government’s efforts to deliver on a key presidential pledge, focusing on sustainable and inclusive development over the next two decades.
