The Ministry of Tourism has announced the opening of public bidding for the lease of a 71,832 square metre plot of land in Baarah, Haa Alif Atoll, for the development, operation, and management of a tourist hotel. This project forms part of the Maldivian government’s broader ecotourism initiatives, which are aimed at promoting sustainable tourism across the nation.
The Ministry invites both local and foreign bidders to submit sealed proposals for the lease, which will be granted for a period of 50 years. The project is expected to include at least 75 rooms, and bidders must propose a minimum lease acquisition cost of USD 200,000.
As part of the project, sustainable practices will be prioritised, with bidders encouraged to include proposals that focus on renewable energy usage and other environmentally-friendly solutions. The development is expected to boost the bed capacity of Haa Alif Atoll and create new investment opportunities.
Interested parties can purchase bidding documents for USD 500 from the Ministry of Tourism between 22nd October and 4th December 2024. Bids must be submitted by 10:00 AM on 5th December 2024, and will be opened in the presence of bidders or their representatives.
A virtual pre-bid meeting will be held on 28th October 2024 to provide further information for interested bidders. The Ministry encourages potential investors to participate and learn more about the requirements and opportunities associated with the project.
This initiative highlights the government’s continued efforts to enhance tourism in the Maldives while ensuring that sustainability and environmental preservation remain at the forefront of development.
