The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives) has officially joined the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). This recognition was granted during the IFAC Council Meeting in Paris, France, on 6 November 2024, symbolising a new chapter for CA Maldives and the nation’s accounting community.
The ceremony saw CA Maldives’ President, Mr. Mohamed Haleem Abdulla, and former president and current Auditor General, Mr. Hussain Niyazy, accepting the membership from IFAC President Ms. Asmâa Resmouki. They were joined by IFAC Deputy President Mr. Jean Bouquot and CEO Mr. Lee White. This international membership arrives only four years after CA Maldives’ inception, marking the nation’s swift progression within the global accounting landscape.
Mr. Haleem Abdulla expressed his pride, calling it a historic achievement for the Maldivian accounting profession. “This membership underscores our commitment to fostering a strong financial ecosystem. We are grateful to our sponsor CA India, our dedicated members, and both past and present council members who have contributed to this success,” he remarked.
Established in 1977, IFAC represents more than 3 million accountants worldwide. Through its dedication to high-quality international standards, IFAC supports transparency and accountability in global financial practices. This membership will allow CA Maldives to connect with over 180 professional accountancy organisations across 135 countries, opening doors for professional growth and elevating the standards of Maldivian accountancy.
As CA Maldives enters this new era, it aims to fortify its commitment to professional development, equipping its members with the skills necessary to navigate the evolving demands of the international financial arena.
