The Ministry of Social and Family Development, in collaboration with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), has successfully concluded a six-month internship programme aimed at fostering inclusion for persons with disabilities. The initiative, hosted at Velana International Airport, resulted in one participant securing permanent employment.
Launched under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 9 June 2024, the programme provided four individuals with disabilities the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience within the MACL office.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held on the 20th, Ahmed Athif, Minister of State for Social and Family Development, highlighted the programme’s significance in creating an inclusive workforce. Similarly, Mohamed Lam’aan, Deputy Managing Director of MACL, reiterated the company’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and integrating them into professional environments.
This partnership marks an important step towards increasing workforce diversity and promoting equal opportunities in the Maldives.
