Investigation Continues as HDC Reverses Some Suspensions

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced that it has lifted the suspension of some employees who were previously suspended in connection with the ongoing criminal investigation into the Gedhoruveriya/Binveriya housing scheme.

In December, 15 employees, including senior management members, were initially suspended. They were later terminated from their positions, but within three days, they were reinstated and suspended again. An HDC media official confirmed that based on the findings of the investigation, the suspension of some employees has now been lifted, though no further details have been disclosed.

Of the 15 suspended employees, all except one were reportedly close associates of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, who resigned as HDC’s Managing Director last December. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and police launched a major inquiry into allegations surrounding the allocation of land under the Binveriya scheme after it was revealed that Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and brother of Fazul, had received a plot despite not meeting the eligibility criteria. Fazul is also accused of destroying HDC documents related to the case.

HDC Board Chairman Ahmed Nasif (Didi) previously stated that the company was taking necessary measures to facilitate the investigation, ensuring its internal affairs were aligned with the requirements of the ongoing inquiry by the ACC and police.

The investigation remains ongoing, with further developments expected as authorities continue to examine the case.
