State Electric Company (STELCO) signed with Sifainge Welfare Company (SIWEC) yesterday to train their employees in various areas.
SIWEC, the welfare company of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), was represented by its Managing Director, Colonel Ahmed Zubair, while STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, signed on behalf of the company.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Fahumy highlighted that some STELCO employees had previously been involved in emergency situations, including rescuing a person who fell from one of their boats and confronting intruders attempting to enter company premises.
“So we looked to see if they have done this training. To see what advantages they gained from it, to be able to take the lead in such situations,” he said.
He noted that these employees had completed leadership training conducted by MNDF, highlighting the programme’s value in the workplace and beyond.
“Therefore, I want to say this program is very useful, in our daily lives, at the workplace, and in service to the country as well,” Fahmy said.
Under the agreement, STELCO employees will receive training in the following areas:
- Basic first aid
- Fire awareness training
- Industrial Fire Brigade course
- Security officer training
- Swimming and rescue
- Life coaching
Additionally, MNDF will conduct fire evacuation drills for employees managing STELCO power stations.
STELCO aims to ensure all its employees complete these programmes. According to the company, 668 employees have already undergone the training in previous years.
