The United Kingdom became the leading source market for tourism in the Maldives in February 2025, according to recently released statistics from Maldives Immigration.

In February alone, a total of 214,091 tourists arrived in the Maldives, bringing the cumulative total for the year up to 428,954 visitors. British travellers led the charts for the month, accounting for 23,210 arrivals, narrowly surpassing China, which registered 21,928 tourists. China remains the leading tourist market for the Maldives overall, having already contributed over 60,000 visitors so far in 2025, despite falling behind the UK for the month of February.

The highest single-day tourist arrival recorded this year was on 16 February, when the Maldives welcomed 9,518 tourists, setting a new daily record for the year. On average, daily arrivals have been around 7,646 visitors in 2025.

Last year marked a milestone in the Maldives’ tourism history, with a record-breaking 2,047,435 visitors arriving in 2024—an impressive nine percent increase compared to 2023. This was the first time the Maldives surpassed two million tourist arrivals within a calendar year.

Building on this success, the Maldivian government has set ambitious targets for 2025, aiming for a 15 percent increase in tourist arrivals over the previous year. Authorities also aim to boost tourism revenue significantly, setting a revenue goal of USD 5 billion for the year.

These figures highlight the continued global appeal of the Maldives as a luxury holiday destination, with its popularity particularly strong among travellers from Europe and Asia.
