Foreign Minister Departs for Raisina Dialogue 2025 in India

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, embarked on a two-day official visit to India this evening to participate in the 10th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, scheduled from 17 to 19 March 2025 in New Delhi.

During the conference, Minister Dr. Khaleel will contribute to the panel discussion titled “Climate Cataclysm: The Adaptation Agenda is Gasping,” addressing critical challenges in climate adaptation. The Raisina Dialogue, hosted annually by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with India’s Ministry of External Affairs, serves as a premier global forum for geopolitical and strategic discussions.

This year’s theme, “Kālachakra – People, Peace, and Planet,” highlights the interconnectedness of global communities and the shared responsibility in addressing pressing issues such as climate change. The conference will feature over 3,500 participants from approximately 125 countries, including ministers, former heads of state and government, military commanders, industry leaders, academics, journalists, and experts from leading think tanks.

For the Maldives, participation in the Raisina Dialogue is significant, offering a platform to amplify its perspectives on global issues, particularly climate change—a matter of existential importance for the island nation. In previous editions, Maldivian representatives have actively engaged in discussions highlighting the vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States and advocating for sustainable environmental practices.

During his visit, Minister Dr. Khaleel is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and other visiting foreign ministers on the sidelines of the dialogue, further strengthening diplomatic ties and regional cooperation.
