Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has introduced a new seaplane service connecting the capital to Baa Atoll’s Fulhadhoo, significantly cutting down travel time for visitors and residents heading to B. Fulhadhoo, B. Fehendhoo and B. Goidhoo.
The new route, which launches on 31st March 2025, will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays — a move aimed at easing weekend getaways and short trips to the remote corners of Baa Atoll. With a direct seaplane transfer reducing the journey to just 25 minutes, passengers can now enjoy a quicker, more scenic alternative to current routes that require longer transit through B. Dharavandhoo.
While Maldivian already operates flights to Dharavandhoo, the geographical distance between it and Fulhadhoo often presents logistical challenges. The new seaplane service bridges that gap, offering a direct link for those visiting friends and family, or seeking a tranquil escape.
This expansion strengthens Maldivian’s domestic footprint, which now includes 16 domestic airports and an extensive fleet comprising 25 aircraft, including 11 DHC-6 Twin Otters used for seaplane operations. The airline is also positioning itself to accommodate the rising demand for both domestic and international travel, serving countries such as India and China.
Ticket bookings for the new route are already open, with the airline encouraging early reservations for the upcoming launch. For bookings or inquiries, passengers may visit www.maldivian.aero or contact the dedicated seaplane hotline via 1671.
