Island Aviation Services Ltd (IASL) has opened invitations for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the extension of the terminal at N. Maafaru International Airport, presenting an opportunity for infrastructure investors to engage in a strategically positioned gateway in the northern Maldives.
The project will be executed through a contractor financing model, where the selected proponent will be responsible for funding the expansion. IASL has invited both local and international firms to propose their financing structures—ranging from public-private partnerships (PPPs) to lease-purchase arrangements and other innovative financial models.
The airport, situated in Noonu Atoll, plays a vital role in enabling tourism and connectivity in the northern region. The terminal extension is designed to accommodate increasing passenger volumes while enhancing overall operational efficiency. The selected contractor will undertake design integration with existing facilities, comply with national aviation regulations, and provide all infrastructure and utilities necessary for project completion.
Interested parties must submit their EOIs by 17 April 2025 at 23:59hrs (Maldives time). Only those who register their interest by the deadline will be eligible to submit full proposals. EOIs must be submitted via email to moohath.mohamed@iasl.aero, with copies to mohamed.ziyau@iasl.aero and procurement.admin@iasl.aero, under the subject “NMF Terminal Extension – (L4-BID NO 06-2025).”
According to the RFP, full proposals are due by 5 May, with project evaluation, award, and contract finalisation expected by the end of May. Project mobilisation is slated for June 2025.
This development underscores Maafaru’s growing importance as a regional hub in the Maldives’ aviation landscape and presents a rare opportunity for firms with capacity in airport infrastructure to contribute to the country’s expanding connectivity network.
