Kaimoo Travels and Hotel Services has restated its support for Addu City’s development while clarifying the situation surrounding an overlap between its Equator Village Maldives resort and the proposed route of a new road development in the area.
In a statement released yesterday, the company highlighted its continued dedication to the southernmost atoll, where it has operated Equator Village Maldives for over 20 years. The resort, located at Gan, plays a significant role in the region’s tourism and economy.
The press release detailed that the resort operates under a valid lease with the Ministry of Tourism, first signed in 1999 and renewed in 2017. The lease covers the entire resort compound, parts of which coincide with the alignment of a planned new road in Addu. The overlapping section reportedly includes vital infrastructure such as the kitchen, staff accommodation, laundry facilities, and recreational spaces used by both guests and staff.
Kaimoo stressed that these facilities are “integral to the resort’s daily operations,” and noted that it has been in consistent dialogue with the Ministry of Tourism to find a solution. The company said it has “proactively proposed solutions” to ensure the continuation of resort operations without hindering the city’s development plans.
“We remain committed to working closely with the Ministry of Tourism to reach a fair and timely resolution,” the company stated, expressing confidence that cooperation would yield a mutually beneficial outcome.
The reaffirmation comes amid heightened interest in infrastructure development in Addu, which is seen as a key region for future tourism and economic growth in the Maldives.
