Ooredoo Maldives has reported a net profit of MVR 168 million for the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a 4% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the company’s financial disclosure on 30 April. Despite a marginal 1% dip in revenue to MVR 547 million, the telecom provider posted steady earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) of MVR 298 million, up 1% from Q1 2024, driven by enhanced operational efficiency and cost optimisation.
The company also recorded a 5% increase in its customer base, reaching 426,000 subscribers.
Among the key operational highlights for the quarter was the expansion of Ooredoo’s 5G network, which now covers 80% of the Maldives’ population. The network’s growth reinforces Ooredoo’s position as the country’s most extensive and advanced 5G provider, offering high-speed internet and wider connectivity.
Ooredoo also introduced the Maldives’ first eSIM-enabled wearable service, with the launch of Samsung smartwatches that allow users to stay connected independently of their smartphones.
In the digital and entertainment space, Ooredoo Nation hosted the Ultimate Gaming Festival, described as the country’s largest gaming event to date. The company also rolled out the ‘Ooredoo Calendar 2025’, combining traditional folklore with interactive, AI-powered storytelling.
Social impact initiatives took centre stage during Ramadan. The company collaborated with Qatar Charity to upgrade Hulhumalé Grand Mosque’s air conditioning system and launched a Zakat payment service alongside giveaways and an AI-powered storytelling feature through the Ooredoo App. Interactive campaigns like “Karaa Felhun” added a gamified dimension to user engagement during the festive season.
Ooredoo’s corporate contributions were recognised at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, where it received accolades for best HR practices and corporate social responsibility, particularly for its air ambulance initiative.
Managing Director and CEO Khalid Al-Hamadi said the company remains focused on “empowering communities with forward-thinking digital solutions, world class services and sustainable technologies that enhance network performance while enriching our customer’s journey.”
As of end-2024, Ooredoo Maldives reported annual revenues of MVR 2.2 billion and a profit after tax of MVR 685 million. Its shares are publicly traded on the Maldives Stock Exchange.
