Maldives Sees Over 54,000 Tourists in First 10 Days of May

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives during the first ten days of May 2025 reached 54,058, reflecting a 17.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. The figures suggest a strong start to what is typically a quieter month following the end of the high season.

The increase in arrivals builds on April’s performance, which also saw year-on-year growth of 17.8 percent. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the cumulative arrivals for 2025 as of 10th May stand at 884,802 visitors, up from 818,341 during the same period in 2024, an overall growth of 8.1 percent.

Resorts continued to dominate the accommodation segment, hosting 70.9 percent of all tourists, while guesthouses accounted for 23.6 percent and safari vessels 2.5 percent. Hotels made up the remaining 3.0 percent of stays.

China remained the top source market for Maldivian tourism in 2025, followed by Russia, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany. Notably, India ranked sixth despite traditionally being among the top three markets in previous years.

The current operational bed capacity stands at 63,070 across 1,181 facilities. These include 175 resorts, 832 guesthouses, 158 safari vessels, and 16 hotels.

If the momentum continues, May 2025 could close with significantly higher arrival numbers than in previous years, further reinforcing the Maldives’ steady post-pandemic recovery in tourism.
