The expansion is set to be completed in two distinct stages. Stage one will involve the construction of a new two-storey terminal building, based on a detailed design provided by IASL. The structure will feature a steel frame on reinforced concrete foundations, with aluminium cladding and soundproof glass walls. Interior finishes include parquet and porcelain tiling, panelled ceilings, and soundproof partition walls. Vertical transportation will be enabled through staircases and a passenger lift, with all necessary operational equipment, signage, and furnishings to be supplied by the contractor.

Stage two focuses on the refurbishment and integration of the existing single-storey terminal building with the new structure. This phase includes demolition of select internal walls, construction of new partitions, and a full interior revamp following new layouts and design specifications. High-end carpet flooring will be installed in VIP lounge areas, and the remaining tiled sections will be replaced where necessary. Operational systems, furniture, and fittings are also part of the contractor’s deliverables.

Located in Noonu Atoll, Maafaru International Airport plays a strategic role in connecting the northern atolls of the Maldives to international travel routes. The planned expansion is part of broader efforts to enhance airport infrastructure and improve passenger handling capacity.

According to the announcement, detailed bid documents will only be provided to registered and interested parties. The project will be awarded on a lump sum basis, with changes to cost permissible only in the event of design modifications.
