VP Urges All Maldivians to Contribute to Economic Transformation

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called on all Maldivians to actively contribute to rebuilding a strong, resilient national economy. He made the remarks at the official launch of the National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey Report, held yesterday.

Addressing the event, the Vice President emphasised that one of the key pledges of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is the creation of new employment opportunities over the next five years. He noted that significant strides have already been made in the past 18 months to deliver on this promise.

As part of these efforts, the Cabinet has resolved to designate specific sectors where jobs will be reserved exclusively for Maldivians. According to the President’s Office, the Vice President also highlighted several targeted policy initiatives introduced to enhance Maldivian participation in critical sectors such as healthcare and education, including the launch of the National Service Programme and other strategic economic interventions.

Noting the importance of public involvement, he stated that every Maldivian has a role to play in building a financially sustainable future. He further encouraged the government to ensure that the benefits of expanding job markets and income-generating opportunities are accessible to all citizens, regardless of background.

The National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey Report—a joint initiative by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development and the World Bank—aimed to assess labour market gaps, define in-demand skills, and identify challenges faced by youth in employment. The findings will help shape both immediate and long-term strategies aligned with the government’s development goals and manifesto.
