MACL to Develop Fitness and Recreation Centres in 63 Islands

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation to establish fitness and recreation centres in 63 islands across the Maldives.

The signing ceremony took place at H. Meeru Maa. MACL’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, signed on behalf of the company, while Minister of Sports and Physical Wellbeing, Abdullah Rafiu, signed on behalf of the Ministry.

Speaking at the event, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said it was an honour for MACL to support the establishment of fitness centres, noting that the initiative would contribute to ensuring the well-being of citizens.

According to the Ministry, a total of 87 fitness and recreation centres have so far been allocated to both government-owned and private companies for development.

The project is part of the government’s wider plan to make fitness facilities available in all inhabited islands by 2026.
