Former Minister Hamdhoon Hameed Appointed Advisor to Finance and Planning Minister

The Ministry of Finance and Planning has confirmed the appointment of former minister Hamdhoon Hameed as an advisor to the Minister. His position has been designated at ministerial level, though the exact date of his appointment has not been specified.

Hamdhoon Hameed brings extensive experience in public service to the role. He served as Minister of Planning and National Development from 2003 to 2008 during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, where he oversaw national planning and development initiatives. More recently, he held the position of Non-Resident Ambassador to Singapore between 2016 and 2018.

His appointment comes in the wake of government restructuring announced in December last year, when the Ministry of Finance was renamed the Ministry of Finance and Planning. The reshuffle also expanded the Ministry’s mandate to include planning functions that were previously under the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Urban Development.

By bringing in an advisor with a planning background, the Ministry aims to strengthen its capacity to manage the broadened portfolio of finance and planning functions.
