Gov’t Establishes Digital Service, Dissolves NCIT

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives Digital Service under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, following the dissolution of the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT).

The decision was taken under Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and was communicated through a directive issued by the President’s Office yesterday. As a result, the NCIT has been formally abolished and its functions transferred to the newly formed agency.

The move follows Cabinet deliberations held on 25 September 2025 on the country’s Digital-First Nation vision. The Maldives Digital Service has been designated as the primary executive body responsible for implementing the Maldives 2.0 Roadmap 2025 to 2028, which outlines the government’s digital transformation agenda.

In addition to assuming all responsibilities previously carried out by the NCIT, the new agency will lead the implementation of the roadmap across government institutions.
