Muizzu Concludes Germany Visit Marking 60 Years of Ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu returned to Malé on Friday following his official visit to Germany, undertaken at the invitation of Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

During official talks, President Dr Muizzu and President Steinmeier agreed to maintain the momentum of dialogue established during the visit. They discussed expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest through enhanced high-level exchanges aimed at delivering mutual benefits for both countries.

At the Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable, German companies received briefings on investment opportunities in the Maldives. In his remarks, President Dr Muizzu outlined ongoing economic reforms and invited German businesses to explore emerging opportunities as the Maldives continues to diversify its economy.

The roundtable concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Visit Maldives and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH to strengthen cooperation in destination promotion and marketing.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu delivered a keynote address at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he spoke on the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation. He also addressed the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), the German Council on Foreign Relations, on the role of the ocean in foreign policy.

The visit coincided with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. An official reception marked the occasion, bringing together the Maldivian delegation, senior German government officials, members of the diplomatic corps in Berlin and members of the Maldivian community residing in Germany.

President Dr Muizzu also met members of the Maldivian community during the visit and engaged with them on their experiences and concerns.
