
The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry held its 36th Annual General Meeting on 15 February 2026 at Kurumba Maldives, bringing together 112 members and industry stakeholders to review the association’s activities and set its direction for the coming term.
The meeting opened with remarks from Vice Chairman Hussain Afeef, followed by the Secretary General’s statement delivered by Ahmed Nazeer. A segment of the programme was dedicated to recognising the late Mohamed Umar Maniku, former Chairman of MATI, who was inducted as the association’s first Member of Honour in acknowledgement of his contributions to the development of the tourism industry.
Members reviewed and approved the minutes of the 35th Annual General Meeting, the 2025 Annual Report, and the Financial Reports for the year. The assembly also approved the association’s budget for 2026 and confirmed Faris & Co LLP as auditors for the year.
Elections were held for the Executive Board for the 2026 to 2029 term. Hussain Afeef of KASA Holdings Pvt Ltd was elected Chairman, with Salah Shihab of Voyages Maldives Pvt Ltd and Ahmed Nazeer of Crown Company Pvt Ltd serving as Vice Chairmen. Asad Ali of Driftwood Maldives Pvt Ltd was elected Secretary General, alongside other board members representing companies across the tourism sector.
The programme also included a presentation by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment outlining its regulatory agenda and work plan for 2026, as well as a presentation by MATI reviewing the tourism industry’s performance in 2025. An open discussion session provided members with the opportunity to raise and deliberate on industry matters.
The AGM concluded with closing remarks by the newly elected Secretary General, who highlighted the need for collaboration, regulatory stability, and a supportive policy environment to sustain the growth of the tourism industry.
