President Muizzu Expresses Solidarity with Gulf States Amid Expanding Conflict

The Maldives is increasing diplomatic engagement with Arab states affected by the escalating conflict in the Middle East, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu confirming plans to speak directly with regional leaders as tensions rise.

At a press meeting with journalists, the President said the Government is expressing solidarity with Arab Islamic nations where United States military bases have reportedly come under attack following US-led strikes on Iran. He noted that efforts are underway to contact leaders of countries facing security threats in order to convey the Maldives’ support and cooperation.

The President confirmed that he held a telephone conversation yesterday with the President of the United Arab Emirates to express solidarity. He added that a call is scheduled today with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and that he also intends to speak with the leaders of Bahrain and Qatar.

Addressing the broader conflict, the President said the Maldivian government condemns attacks by all parties involved, referring to the United States, Iran and Israel. He also stated that the Maldives is calling for an end to the war and for de-escalation.

The developments follow US-led strikes against Iran, reportedly carried out in coordination with Israel. Iran has since responded with missile attacks targeting US military bases and interests in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE and Bahrain. Governments in those countries have publicly condemned the attacks directed at their territories.

The President’s remarks outline a diplomatic approach that combines expressions of solidarity with affected states and a broader call for restraint amid an intensifying regional crisis.
