MPL Appoints Ibrahim Ziyath as Deputy CEO

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has appointed former Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Ziyath as its Deputy Chief Executive Officer, adding him to the company’s senior management team. The appointment was announced by MPL on Monday.

Ziyath previously served as CEO of MTCC during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He has also held roles within state-owned enterprises and is part of a family with prior involvement in senior public sector positions.

His past tenure has drawn scrutiny. In October 2021, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) forwarded a case to the Prosecutor General’s Office seeking charges against Ziyath in connection with allegations related to the recruitment of foreign workers for MTCC projects.

MPL has not provided further details on the scope of his responsibilities in the new role. His appointment comes at a time when the company continues to play a central role in managing port operations and logistics in the Maldives.
